Welcome

As the world embraces the power of digital technologies many organisations will require a workforce with skills to take advantage of these technologies. We often hear in the press that there is a skills shortage. What we don’t often hear about is the important role industry plays in helping to address that shortage.

Talent is everywhere in our communities. Industry plays a key role in supporting the development of that talent through the provision of experiential learning opportunities to supplement formal study.

Many industries have been leading the way supporting paid apprenticeships, particularly in the trades. Historically professionals also learned their skills on the job but over time education institutions have played an ever increasing role, to the extent that for many individuals their first professional experience is after graduating from university.

The question we hear some in industry ask is ‘are graduates really job ready?‘

When industry and educators collaborate to co-create learning pathways, and then partner to co-design and co-deliver the learning experience, the outcomes are measurably more successful, for the individuals, the education institutions, and industry.
